FAQ

  • Are your products food safe?

In general, most of the pottery I make is food safe. The product description will always mention whether the item can be used with foodstuff or not. If there happens to be no mention in the description of a particular item and you’d like to know, or if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  • Are your products dishwasher safe?

To maintain the items in good condition for many years, I recommend hand washing. That is the case especially with wood-fired ceramics with natural ash glazing, as well as decorative items with crackle glazes.

  • Are your products microwave/oven/freezer safe?

All of my food safe products are also microwave safe.

I don’t recommend using the products in an oven, as high heat combined with sudden temperature changes can in some instances break ceramic products.

I would not use ceramics in freezer, as freezing liquids expand, which can easily break non-flexible materials such as ceramics.

  • Where do you ship? How much does it cost?

I ship worldwide. The cost depends on the destination as well as the weight and dimensions of the parcel. Simply put, shipping to Finland is affordable, Europe is still reasonable, and the rest of the World is unfortunately expensive to ship to. This is due to the fact, that the fees of Finnish Post multiply when crossing the EU borders.

Due to technical restrictions with the shop platform, I have had to set three different flat rates for Finland (12 €), EU (24 €) and the rest of the World (75 €). These rates are calculated based on a typical order of a couple of small items.

However, in case your order is particularly small and light and ends up costing much less than estimated, I will contact you, find a cheaper way to ship and will refund the excess. Likewise, if there are unforeseen reasons for which the shipping costs would considerably increase over the set and paid flat rate, I might need to temporarily cancel the order and contact you regarding the matter.

  • What is the basis for your pricing? Why are some seemingly similar products priced differently?

Prices of each of my pottery products are based on a couple of factors. Material costs, equipment, workshop-related expenses and the general costs of running a business form a basis for pricing. Second, I take into consideration the amount of work I need to put into an item. A simple small bowl is relatively fast to make, while the process of making a single teapot is very time-consuming. Third, with pottery and in particularly with special firing methods the failure rate can be quite high, which increases the costs of a successful item. Similarly, sometimes rare and and unexpected yet desirable qualities appear in processes like wood-firing, resulting in unique and special individual items. These are priced higher than more ordinary results.

Lastly, I have also always included the Finnish VAT of 25,5 % within the prices, so that there are no unpleasant surprises at checkout.

  • How long does it take to ship?

While I try to ship items as soon as I can, it may take a few days before the parcel is sent.

The actual shipping time depends on the destination country. Here are a few examples of the Finnish Post estimates:

    Finland 1–3 days
    Sweden 4–5 days
    France 4–6 days
    Japan 4–6 days
    UK 5–7 days
    USA 6–8 days
    Australia 6–9 days

Note that the estimates are in business days, which means that weekends and public holidays will add extra time.

  • Can you ship an item to me by a certain date (eg. Christmas)?

While there are estimates by the Finnish Post on how long it takes for parcels to arrive at their destination, the reliability of those can be questionable, especially during busy seasons.

For Christmas season 2024, items sent during early week 50 should make it within Europe before Christmas, but unfortunately I cannot guarantee that with full certainty. Items sent by the end of week 50 should arrive in time in Finland.

  • Do you make commissioned work?

In general, I work with my own range of products, at my own pace.

However, I’m open to considering commissions and collaborations as long as the work is within my style and expertise, so please get in touch if you have something in mind.

  • I have a question and did not find the answer here!

For any questions, send me a message and I’ll gladly answer as well as I can!

  • Do you have only one piece or more of a particular item?

In general, I list products one by one, which means that once it’s gone, there are no similar items left.

For some items, such as some cups and small bowls, there might be small batches of a few very similar items. In those cases it is mentioned both in the product name as well as the description, that there are multiple available.

While in these listings all the products share the same feel and closely resemble each other in terms of size, shape and glazing, they are handmade products and there are small individual differences that make each of them unique. My items are not made with moulds but by throwing on the wheel one by one, handles pulled by hand and details like spouts formed individually, so there are small differences in physical dimensions. In addition, details such as the amount of crackle and color shifts in glazes, and the amount and shape of glaze drippings will vary. Please be aware that if you purchase one of those items, the one you receive can be slightly different from the exact one in the product photos.
