Bud vase #35, natural ash glaze
A tiny bud vase with intense orange colouring and very distinctive wadding marks.
During wood firing, ceramic works are lifted from kiln shelves on top of small balls of sandy clay, called waddings, to prevent items from getting stuck to the shelves. This practial necessity also offers a chance for creating interesting visual effects, as is the case with this little Munch-esque bud vase.
This tiny vase is carefully handcrafted and brought to life in a traditional wood-fired anagama-kiln, undergoing several days of continuous firing. The organic patterns, textures and colours of the glaze are created by wood ash settling on the surface during firing. The intense heat and movement of the flames result in a finish that is completely unique to each piece.
Perfectly happy as a piece of decoration on it’s own, and also ideal for accommodating a single tiny dry flower or plant. Note: the inside is not glazed, so putting in liquids is not recommended, as it can slowly seep through.
Height 5,6 cm
Width 4,8 cm
Weight 39 g
Intended for decorative use. Washing by hand is recommended.
