Tea bowl (chawan) #3, carbon shino
A tea bowl (chawan) with smooth and glossy carbon-trap shino. The surface has beautiful shifts from creamy white to variations of gray, with crackled texture throughout. On the inside there are some lovely streaks of flowing glaze, with dark gray outlines.
This tea bowl is carefully handcrafted and brought to life in a traditional wood-fired anagama-kiln, undergoing several days of continuous firing. This method, in which intense live flames and flying ash are in direct contact with the ceramic works, results in each piece becoming truly one of a kind.
